Attaching Referral Actions to Offense Codes

If you choose to allow action recommendations and to limit actions as you create an Offense code, only those referral Actions you attach to the offense can be assigned to a student who commits the infraction. Only the Referral codes included in the limited list will display when a staff member is assigning a referral to the student. For example, when a student has a referral record for cheating, you could choose to only allow actions of parental conference and detention to be selected.

Procedure

  1. Select Menu > Administrative Access > Discipline.
  2. Select Offense under Codes.

    You see the Offense List, which displays existing Offense codes.

  3. Click the Open icon to the left of the Offense code where you wish to attach Referral actions.

    You see the General tab of the Offense Details screen.

  4. Under the Offense Details heading, verify the box for Use for Referral is checked or check the box if necessary.

    When checked, the box for Allow Action Recommendations box displays.

  5. Verify the box for Allow Action Recommendation is checked or check the box if necessary.

    This option only displays if the box for Allow Action Recommendations Connected to Referrals is checked in the District Year Configuration of the Discipline module.

  6. Verify the box for Limit Actions is checked or check the box if necessary.

    The Limit Actions box must be checked to select the referral actions you wish to attach to the offense.

  7. Click Save Changes near the top left of the screen to save your work.

    You remain on the General tab of the Offense Details screen.

  8. Select the Referral Actions tab at the left of the screen.

    This tab only displays if the box for Allow Action Recommendations is checked.

    You see existing Referral Action codes for the Offense code. If the Limit Actions box was checked when the Offense code was initially created, the list will be blank. If the Limit Actions box was checked after the Offense code was initially created, all Referral Action codes will already be attached to the offense.

  9. Click Select Referral Actions near the top right of the screen.

    This option only displays if you checked the box for Limit Actions.

    You see the Select Referral Actions screen.

  10. Check the box for each referral Action code you wish to attach to the Offense code.

    If you did not check the box for Limit Actions when you initially created the Offense code, all referral actions are checked by default and you must uncheck the box for each referral action you wish to remove from the Offense code. You can check and uncheck the box at the top of the Referral Action column to select or deselect all referral actions.

  11. Click Save near the top left of the screen to save your work.

    You return to the Referral Actions tab of the Offense Details screen, which displays the referral action or actions you selected.

Results

You have successfully attached referral actions to the offense.
