Cloning reports in the Report Designer allows you to create a copy of an existing report and adjust it from there as needed, rather than creating a brand-new report and starting from scratch. For example, you could clone a report to change the file type to Excel. After heading to the Report Manager within the Reporting module, we’ll choose the report we want to clone. Here, there are a variety of options we can modify so our report displays exactly how we want it to. We’ll demonstrate this by modifying the name of this report. Then, we’ll need to update the file type to Excel for our example. Once that’s done and we’re sure our new report is set up how we’d like, we’ll save. The Report Designer displays, and if we needed to customize our report further before running it, we could do that here. Cloning reports is that easy! Now you can be sure that you’re saving valuable time when you’re looking to make adjustments to your reports.

You can clone a Skyward maintained report or a custom report from the Report Manager. Cloning a report is especially helpful when looking to modify a Skyward maintained report, since the original report cannot be modified. Regardless of the report you choose to clone, you can modify some basic details for the report including the Name, Description, Report Type, Report Orientation, and page sizing information. Once you save those details, you see the Report Designer which enables you to customize the cloned report.

You may want to clone a report to change the file type of the report. For example, if the report is configured to generate a PDF but you need an Excel document, you can clone the report and update the Report Type to Excel. If you clone a PDF report and change its format to Excel, or another export type format, you will need to evaluate the structure of the data sections and the fields within.

You could also clone a report to change the portal or module the report is intended for. For example, if your district has a scheduling report for the Administrative Access portal and you want to create a similar report for your teachers in the Teacher Access portal, you could clone the report and modify the Portal field on the General tab of the Report Details screen.
