Creating Text on Report

When creating a report, you are able to add free-form text as necessary. For example, if you wish to include the report name as a field within the Page Header line, you can do so by adding a text field to the section of the report you wish to explain. Text can be added to any Report Line and can be modified as necessary.

You can only create text on a user-created report. If necessary, a Skyward report can be cloned in order to make changes to the layout.

Hi! It's Jake from Skyward. Let's learn about Creating Text on a Report. We'll navigate within the Menu, locate the Reporting module, and select the Report Manager under Features. We'll locate our report that we wish to modify and access the design report screen. In our example, we're going to add a text to the Report Header for the title of the report. To do this, I need to expand my Report Header line, select Report Header, and then select the Text icon to insert my text field on the line where I wish. Since I want my text to center across the page, I need to modify the width of my field. I can then enter the Custom Text in the field at the bottom of the screen. This report is called the Student Activities List. Once I have my text entered, I can click anywhere on the screen and I will see that text show up in my field. In order to get that text centered, I'll have to update my Horizontal Alignment. Once my field is formatted the way I wish, I can save my changes. That's all there is to creating text on a report.

  1. Select Menu > Administrative Access > Reporting.
  2. Select Report Manager under Features.
  3. Click the drop-down icon to the left of the report you wish to modify.

    If the report has a checkmark under the Skyward Maintained column heading, it cannot be modified.

  4. Select Design Report from the menu.
  5. Highlight the line of the report to which you wish to add free-form text.
  6. Click the Text icon near the top right of the highlighted section.

  7. Click within the Custom Text box.
  8. Enter the text you would like to add to the report, and then press tab or click outside of the Custom Text field.
  9. Choose one of the options near the top of the screen to save your work.
    OptionDescription
    Save & BackSaves the custom text you added and you return to the Report Details screen. This option is located near the top left of the screen.
    Save ChangesSaves the custom text you added. You remain on the Report Designer screen. This option is located near the top left of the screen.
    Save And Run ReportSaves the custom text you added and takes you to the Run Report screen. This option is located near the top right of the screen.
    Save And Run Report With Last Values Saves the custom text you added and runs the report with the values set on the last run. If there are required prompts with no values set from a previous run, you will see the Run Report screen. This option is located near the top right of the screen.
