Action codes enable you to track the consequences that occur when a student commits a disciplinary infraction. Examples of Action codes include parent conference, detention, and expulsion. Although Action codes are defined by your organization, you can attach them to the Action Types defined in the software to standardize reporting and categorization. This enables you to classify the action.
Action codes are district-wide codes that are year-specific. Setting up these codes is required if you wish to track infraction consequences.

Let's get started Creating Action Codes. To create an Action code, we're going to go to the Discipline module and we're going to go to the Action under Codes. From here, we can select Add Action to add in our new action code. Today, I would like to create an action code of lunch detention. So, I'm going to enter in the Action Code of LD for lunch detention and then enter in the Action Description and spell out what our action code stands for. Next, we can determine what our Default Duration Type should be set to. We can set this either Days or Hours. For this particular action code, we would like to set this to Hours since we know that students should only serve lunch detention for a set number of hours. We can then enter in the Default Duration of how many hours a student should serve this particular action. For this particular action code, we're going to enter in 1 for one hour. We can then enter in a Default Location if we know that students should serve a lunch detention in a particular location within your Entity. For this particular action code, we're going to leave that blank. The Default Action Type can be set to whatever type of default action best fits in with the action code you are creating. Because we are creating a lunch detention, we would like to set this to the Detention action type. We can also determine if we would like to Suppress Creation of Action Details. By selecting this box, it will not allow us to create action details when we use this particular action code on an Offense. By checking that box, it will also remove the Create Attendance for Action Details from the screen not allowing you to create attendance records for this particular action. If we select the Create Attendance for Action Details, we can then determine the attendance type that we would like to be attached to the student, creating an offense, and attaching this action to that particular offense. For this video, we're going to leave this box unchecked. You will also need to fill out your Federal and State Reporting fields as needed for your particular state. Once you have all of the fields entered on the screen the way that you would like, you can then select Save or Save and Add Another if you would like to enter in more action codes. Since we are only creating one action code today, we're going to select Save. We can then see that the code that we created of Lunch Detention now displays within our action code list and that's all that we need to do to create an action code.
