Individually Scoring Assignments

You can enter or modify scores for individual students using the scoring mode option within the Gradesheet.

The Gradesheet displays a list of students enrolled in the class as well as Assignments based on the Due Date. You can enter scoring mode from the gradesheet to record a Score Clarifier, mark the score as No Count, or enter a comment about the assignment for a student. You can also mark an assignment as Missing in order for an assignment to display as missing in Family Access and Student Access.

The process for scoring assignments is the same whether you are scoring a term assignment or a term semester exam.

Individually scoring assignments is useful when students earned a variety of scores on an assignment. In this video, you will be entering scores for the Participation assignment for the Mathematics course. To begin the process, let’s head over to the Gradesheet within the Gradebook module. We’ll select the Mathematics course. We can choose Enter Scoring Mode to begin entering assignment scores. We’ll enter scores for Shaun Allen and Daniel Carter. Pressing Enter on our keyboard will advance us to the next student for this assignment. Jane Ives earned extra credit, so we’ll enter a score more than the maximum to indicate her extra points. We see a warning from the system that tells us the score we entered is more than the assignment is worth. Since we want to award Jane extra credit, we’ll continue on. Sharan received zero points on her assignment due to her not turning it in. Since we want to include additional details, we’ll click the Chevron icon for the assignment. We’ll notice a score clarifier for Low Score is automatically assigned since we have enabled this option administratively in the Entity Group Configuration of the Gradebook module. We’ll also flag her assignment as missing because she did not hand it in. Let’s continue entering scores for James and Brian. We can also leave scores set at an asterisk to indicate that we have not received the assignment for the student. In this case, Harriet was absent, so we’ll flag her assignment as No Count until she’s back in school. We’ll enter scores for Michael and Ellie. We want to add additional details for Ellie, so we can assign a score clarifier, indicating the assignment was handed in late. We’ll scroll down to enter Julia’s score. Once finished, we’ll select Exit Scoring Mode. Now that you’ve entered assignment scores, you’ll notice that the students’ grades for the term are calculating so guardians and students can stay up to date with each student’s scores.

If you see a specific Gradesheet and need to switch classes, click Class List near the top right of the screen. Then you can click the tile for the appropriate class.

  3. Verify you are in the correct school year by checking the information at the top left of the screen.
  4. Click the tile of the class you wish to score assignments for.

Fields for entering assignment scores appear.

The Attempts, Score Clarifier, No Count, Missing, and Comments fields display.

  7. Enter a numerical or grade mark Score for the assignment.

You can only enter scores for assignments in an open Grading Period. The score you enter will count towards the listed grading period. A score marked with an asterisk (*) indicates the value does not count for or against the student's grade. If you want an unsubmitted or unscored assignment to affect the student's grade, you must enter 0.

You can only enter Grade Mark scores if the assignment has been flagged to Use Grade Mark Scoring. When this option is flagged, enter the letter grade or click the Down Arrow icon to choose a grade mark from the drop-down list.
  8. Enter a Score Clarifier or click the Down Arrow icon to choose from the drop-down list, if appropriate.
  9. Check the box for No Count if appropriate.
  10. Check the box for Missing if appropriate.
This box must be checked for the assignment to display as missing in Family Access and Student Access. Unscored assignments can still display as missing in the Gradesheet depending on the value entered for the Days past Due Date when Unscored Assignments are flagged as Missing in the Entity Group Configuration of the Gradebook module.
  11. Enter a freeform Comment for the score or click the Down Arrow icon to choose from the drop-down list, if appropriate.
  12. To score another assignment, click the Double Left Arrows icon for the completed assignment to collapse the additional fields.

The Attempts, Score Clarifier, Not Count, Missing, and Comments fields no longer display.

  13. Repeat steps 6 - 12 for each assignment you wish to score.
  14. When you are finished scoring assignments for this class, click Exit Scoring Mode near the top right of the screen.
