In the Notifications area of the Message Center module, you can create and send notifications about issues such as Discipline Incidents. The discipline incident assigned to a student describes the infraction the student committed and the notification is generally sent to the guardian of the student. For example, if a student was caught bullying a peer, a discipline incident notification could be sent to the student's guardian.
Discipline incident notifications can be automatically generated and sent once the record is created, or sent at a scheduled time.

By creating discipline incident notifications, you can inform guardians of any infractions that a student in this entity is involved in. From the Message Center module, we’ll head over to the Notification List. Here, we would see any notifications that were previously created. Let’s begin adding a notification now. The Notification Area field is used to select the area of the software that the notification will be pulled from. In our case, this is the Discipline area. Within the Notification field, we’ll select the Discipline Incident to indicate this is what triggers the notification to be sent. Next, we’ll continue to configure the details of our notification. We’ll accept the default trigger type of Instant as we want the recipient to be notified immediately when an incident record is created for their students. The Recipients field allows us to choose who will receive the notifications. We’ll select Guardians for our example. Once we make our selection, we’ll see additional fields. If we change our recipient selection, any fields below will reset. We can also choose to include restricted guardians. Within the Message Filter, we can determine who will receive our notification once it’s sent out. In our case, it will be sent to primary guardians only. To select our primary guardians, we will select the Overall Guardian Number option and include guardians with the overall guardian number equal to 1. Let’s save this filter and continue. We can add any additional staff recipients we would like to receive this notification in the Send CC to Other Staff field. For our example, we will not be adding any recipients. The Offense codes listed here are the offenses a student can be involved in for this notification to be triggered. If the student is involved in an offense that is not on this list, the guardian will not receive a disciplinary notification. For our example, we’ll select all Offense codes. If we wanted to include the individual that created the incident, we could check the Include Created By box. If the incident initially started as a referral, this field would indicate who created it. If we’d like to include details about the incident with this notification, we’ll want to make sure the Include Discipline Message box is checked. We’ll leave the priority type set to Normal. Let’s begin filling out our notification now. We can enter a subject and message that we’d like the guardians to see. The Insert Field option can be used to include other details in the subject or message, such as the student’s name. Let’s save our work! Now that you’ve configured a discipline notification, you can be sure that guardians will be kept up to date on their student’s discipline records.
