Dashboard Shortcuts

You can save time by creating shortcuts using docks, favorites, Tiles, and widgets. These shortcuts act as bookmarks, taking you directly to a particular screen.
  • Dock screens enable you to access screens you use frequently from any location in the software by expanding the Dock area.

  • Favorites enable you to access screens you use frequently from tiles on the dashboard as well as the Favorites drop-down menu.

  • Live tiles enable you to access screens you use frequently from your dashboard and provide a real-time count of records on that screen.

Dashboard shortcuts allow you to easily navigate to particular screens of the software that you frequently visit. For this video, let’s discuss how to dock a screen, create a favorite, add a tile, add a live tile, and add a widget to your dashboard. For this example, we’re in Teacher Access and we’ll navigate to the Gradesheet feature within the Gradebook module. Because we often navigate to this screen, we want to add it to our dock for ease of access. We’ll select the Dock option near the top right of the screen. We can click on the Add to Dock option and we’ll see the Gradebook Class List screen has been added. If we navigate back to the Home screen, we can see the dock and select it to easily navigate to that area of the software. It’s important to note that our dock can be viewed from any area of the software. Next, let's add a favorite. For this example, if we go into the Assignment Class List of the Gradebook module, we can add this screen as a favorite by clicking on the unfilled Star icon next to the screen name. Once completed, this has been added to our Favorites list, which can be accessed by selecting the Star icon next to the Menu. We can also view this list from any area of the software. If we head back to the Home screen, we can see that this has also created a tile for us that can be used to navigate to the Assignment Class List. Next, we’ll create a tile. For this example, we’ll go to the Daily Attendance feature within the Attendance module. We can select a class and add this as a tile to our dashboard. By selecting the More option, we can click on Add Daily Attendance Tile to Dashboard. Here, we can begin customizing how we want this tile to display. We can change the Display Title, choose to show the associated icon, select the size of the tile from the available options, and configure the color for this tile. Once we’ve made our changes, we’ll click Save and can head back to the Home screen where we’ll be able to see the tile we just created. By selecting this tile, we’ll be directed to that area. We can also choose to add a live tile to our dashboard. Live tiles allow us to view information in the system that reflects live data. For this example, we’ll navigate to the Student List screen within the Student module. We’ll select the More option again and click on Add Live Tile to Dashboard in the drop-down menu. Again, we can choose to update the Display Title, toggle on or off the associated icon, choose the appropriate tile size, and configure colors for this tile. Let’s select Save and navigate back to the home screen. We’ll see the associated live tile which reflects the number of students that we currently have. As students are added or removed from any of our classes, this live tile will update on our dashboard. Lastly, let’s add a widget to our dashboard. Within the Dashboard Library, we can choose to add a widget from any of the tab groups that are made available to us. For this example, we’ll select the My Messages sub-tab within the Message Center tab group. The configurations we see are dependent on the widget we select, and for this example, we can update the Display Title if we’d like. We also have the option to select a different tile size. As we make these selections, the preview under the Dashboard Item Preview heading will update. Once we’ve made all the changes we’d like, we can select Add to My Dashboard before exiting out of this screen. Now that you know how to create dashboard shortcuts, you can easily navigate to the screens that you frequently visit.

  • To dock a screen, complete the following steps.

When you dock a screen, a dock icon for that screen is added beneath the icons for Menu, Star, House, and, if your organization has it set up, Globe.

    1. Navigate to the screen you wish to dock.
    2. Click the Dock icon near the top right of the screen.
    3. Click Add to Dock near the top left of the screen to dock the screen.

A dock icon with the screen name displays near the top left of the screen. As long as the Dock area is expanded, that dock icon displays in that location as you move to other screens.

  • To add a favorite, complete the following steps.

When you add a favorite, the system automatically creates a favorite tile on your dashboard and adds the screen to the Favorites drop-down menu. However, if you delete a favorite, the system does not automatically delete the favorite tile. The favorite and favorite tile are not linked.

    1. Navigate to the area or screen you wish to save as a favorite.
    2. Click the unfilled Star icon to the right of the screen name to make this screen or area a favorite.
The star outline is filled in, which indicates the screen or area is a favorite. The screen or area name is added to your favorites list and a Tile with the name of the favorite is added to the dashboard.
  • To add a live tile to your dashboard, complete the following steps.

You may need to modify the filter or view on the list screen before creating a live tile in order to display the information you wish to view. Any filters in effect when the live tile was created will be used in the counts on the tile.

    1. Navigate to the list screen you wish to create a live tile for.
    2. Click More near the top right of the screen.

You see the List Options drop-down menu.

    3. Select Add Live Tile to Dashboard from the menu.
    4. Under the Dashboard Item Details heading, verify the Display Text or enter the correct display text if necessary.
    5. Uncheck the box for Show Icon if appropriate.

This box defaults to checked, but can be unchecked if necessary.

    6. Under the Tile Size heading, select the appropriate Size.
    7. Under the Tile Colors heading, select the appropriate radio button for the Color Option.
    8. Click Save near the top left of the screen to save the tile.
  • To add a widget to your dashboard, complete the following steps.

When you add a widget, the system creates a chart tile on your dashboard that displays live data for the selected area of the software.

    1. Navigate to the dashboard.
    2. Click Dashboard Library near the top right of the screen.

You see the Dashboard Library screen, which displays the first tab and tab group available to you alphabetically.

    3. Select the tab group you wish to add a widget for at the left of the screen.
    4. Select the sub-tab you wish to add a widget for.

You see details and configurations for the selected sub-tab. Please note that not all of the following fields may display for the selected sub-tab.

    5. Under the Dashboard Item Details heading, verify the Display Title or enter the correct title if necessary.

This defaults based on the selected sub-tab but can be modified if necessary.

    6. Uncheck the box for Show Hover Effect if appropriate.

This box defaults to checked, but can be unchecked if necessary.

    7. Select the appropriate radio button for the Display.
    8. Select the appropriate radio button for the Animation.
    9. Uncheck the box for Show Values if appropriate.

This box defaults to checked, but can be unchecked if necessary.

    10. Select the Label Display option from the drop-down list.
    11. Under the Tile Size heading, select the appropriate Size.
    12. Click Add to My Dashboard near the top right of the window to save the widget.
